APIARY & GARDEN

Many of you are new to the bee hive air apitherapy and wondering what to expect inside the hive during your session. Here is what you need to know to prepare for your appointment.
We are working on the scheduling platform and pricing these next few months.
Our start date will depend on the bees and weather but we are hoping to start offering sessions early June.

You will rest comfortably inside the bee hut. The interior of the hut would be considered like a gentle sauna experience, made of wood, a bench-style platform to lay or sit, slotted to allow for the bee air to rise into the room; lying fully clothed, positioned above active beehives. There is no direct contact with bees at any time.

As the session begins, you may notice the soft hum of the hive, a steady, low-frequency sound that creates subtle vibrations through the bed, called micro-vibration. Many guests find this deeply calming, allowing the body and mind to slow naturally.

Air circulating from the hives carries the natural aromas of honey, wax, pollen, and propolis, creating a clean, earthy atmosphere. Breathing remains easy and gentle throughout the session.

The experience is quiet and unhurried. You are encouraged to rest, meditate, or simply listen. Some people feel warmth, deep relaxation, or a sense of mental clarity. Others may drift into a light sleep.

Sessions typically last 30–60 minutes, after which you may feel calm, grounded, and refreshed. Many guests report improved sleep and a lingering sense of well-being following their visit.

The bees will naturally control the temperature keeping it around 33-37 degrees and high humidity. You will have a refreshing cold towel provided for you, ending your session.

BEE HIVE HUT
WHAT TO EXPECT
BEE HIVE HUT
HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR SESSION
To help you feel comfortable and prepared for your visit, please review the following guidance before your session:

Dress comfortably
Wear light, breathable clothing. The bee hut is naturally warm and humid, with temperatures typically ranging from 33–37°C, similar to the internal climate of an active hive.

Avoid added fragrances
Please do not wear lotions, perfumes, colognes, or scented products. The hut is filled with the bees’ natural aromas of honey, wax, pollen, and propolis. Artificial scents can disturb this delicate environment and may also affect the bees themselves.

Refrain from smoking beforehand
Avoid tobacco or cannabis prior to your appointment. Smoke residue lingers on clothing, skin, and in the air, which can interfere with the experience for both the bees and other guests.

Arrive with an open, unhurried mindset
If this is your first visit, allow yourself to experience the session gently and without expectation. Some guests feel immediate relaxation, while for others the benefits develop over regular, repeated visits as part of a wellness rhythm.

Sound and relaxation
In the pace of daily life, we are surrounded by constant noise. When you first enter the bee hut, the steady humming may feel either surprisingly quiet or slightly intense, especially knowing it comes from live honeybees. This sound is a natural and essential part of the experience. The collective hum creates gentle micro-vibrations that support relaxation and help settle the nervous system. Most guests find that, after a few moments, the sound becomes familiar and deeply calming.
Personal belongings & behaviour
We ask that all personal belongings be placed in the designated secure area before entering the bee hut. Please enter with only yourself. Additional items can introduce external scents, bacteria, and debris into the space, and the hut shares open air with the active hives. Maintaining a clean, neutral environment helps protect the bees.
It is important to remain calm while walking to the hut as well as inside. If attending with a friend or partner, speak softly and avoid raised voices. Sudden loud noises can disturb the colonies.
Cell phones and music are not permitted in the hut. We encourage you to approach the experience much like a spa setting—quiet, minimal, and respectful of the shared atmosphere. Whispers only.

BEE HIVE HUT
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN YOUR SESSION
Each session at Stonehill Farm Apiary & Retreat is a quiet rest within a working apiary. This is not a spa setting. It is a farm experience shaped by bees, wood, warmth, and open air.

Hive-Air Session
30 or 60 minutes inside the Bee Hut, resting on a wooden bee bed positioned above active colonies.
You will hear the natural hum of the bees and feel the warmth they generate beneath you.

Simple Orientation
Before entering, we will explain how the hut works, what you may notice during your time inside, and how to settle in comfortably

Secure Storage Area
A designated locked space is provided for personal belongings.
We ask that phones, bags, and personal items remain outside the hut to protect the shared air environment and maintain calm within the space.

Natural Warmth
The hut is warmed by the bees themselves. The temperature is typically between 33–37°C, depending on the season and hive activity.

Small, Shared Space
There are two beds in the hut. You may book alone or share the session with a partner or friend. Sessions remain quiet and unhurried.
Cooling Treatment
At the end of your session, you will be offered a chilled organic cotton towel and refreshing filtered fresh water. This simple cooling treatment helps your body adjust from the warmth of the hive back to the outdoor air.

Working Farm Setting
Your session takes place in the heart of our working apiary, set across 40 acres on Nova Scotia’s South Shore. The bees are tending their colonies and you may hear the steady coming and going at the hive entrances. This is the natural rhythm of the farm, along with birds, butterflies, deer, squirrels and our farm duo Gus and Lily — it is all part of the experience here.
