 WHAT IS A BEE HUT?

A bee hut is a small wooden structure built over active beehives where guests can relax beside the colonies. While resting inside, you can hear the gentle hum of the bees and breathe air that has naturally circulated through the hive.

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL SESSION FEEL LIKE?

Most guests describe the experience as quiet and deeply relaxing. Inside the hut you will hear the soft hum of the bees and may notice gentle vibrations from the hive, along with the subtle natural scent of honey and wax in the air.

DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE WITH BEES TO PARTICIPATE?

No experience is needed. The bee hut is designed so guests can safely relax beside the hives while the bees remain in their colonies and continue their normal activity.

WILL I BE STUNG DURING THE SESSION?

Guests do not come into direct contact with the bees during the session. The bees remain safely inside their hives and enter and exit through dedicated exterior flight paths built into the hut. Because the bee hut is located within an active apiary, there will naturally be increased bee activity in the surrounding area, which means guests may notice bees nearby.

ARE THE BEES INSIDE THE HUT?

The bee hives are built beneath the bed cavity, with their entrances located on the exterior of the hut. A layer of mesh venting and wooden slats forms the bed surface, allowing the natural sounds, gentle vibrations, and aromas from the hive to pass through while keeping the bees safely separated from guests. How are guests protected from the bees?

WHAT IF I AM ALLERGIC TO BEE STINGS?

Anyone with a known severe allergy to bee stings should not participate in the bee hut experience. Although guests do not come into direct contact with the bees, the hut is located within an active apiary where bees are naturally present in the surrounding area.

IS BEEHIVE AIR THERAPY SAFE FOR CHILDREN?

Children are welcome when accompanied by a parent or guardian, provided they are able to remain calm and relaxed during the session. Because the environment is quiet and restful, the experience is generally best suited for children who can comfortably sit or lie still for the time period of the session.

IS THIS A SAFE EXPERIENCE IF I AM PREGNANT?

Many guests may choose to enjoy the experience during pregnancy; however, because each pregnancy is different, it is recommended to consult with a healthcare provider beforehand if you have any concerns.

ARE THERE ANY HEALTH CONDITIONS THAT SHOULD AVOID THIS EXPERIENCE?

Individuals with severe bee sting allergies should not participate. Anyone with respiratory conditions, sensitivity to scents, or other health concerns may wish to consult their healthcare provider before booking to ensure the experience is appropriate for them.

IS THIS CONSIDERED A MEDICAL TREATMENT?

Bee hive air sessions are offered as a nature-based wellness experience intended for relaxation and connection with the natural world. They are not medical treatments and are not intended to diagnose or cure medical conditions.

ARE THE BEES INSIDE THE HUT?

The bees do not enter the interior of the hut where guests rest. Their hive entrances are located on the exterior of the structure, allowing them to freely come and go while remaining inside their hives beneath the bed cavity.

ARE THE BEES DISTURBED DURING THE SESSION?

No. The hut is designed so the bees can continue their normal activity while guests relax quietly above them. Because the hives remain closed and undisturbed, the colony can carry on with its regular work. Guests are asked to keep the environment calm—avoiding loud noises such as screaming or banging—and to refrain from wearing perfume or arriving with strong scents such as cigarette or cannabis smoke, which can affect both the bees and the air quality within the hut.

WHAT TIME OF THE YEAR ARE THE BEES ACTIVE?

Honey bees are most active during the warmer months, typically from late spring through early fall. During this time the colonies are actively foraging for nectar and pollen, producing honey, and maintaining the hive. The bee hut experience is offered during this honeybee season when the hives are naturally active.

WHAT KIND OF BEES LIVE IN THE HIVES?

The hives are home to honeybees (Apis mellifera), the species commonly managed by beekeepers for honey production and pollination. These bees live in highly organized colonies made up of a queen, worker bees, and drones (male bees).

DO THE BEES MIND PEOPLE BEING AROUND?

Honeybees are generally focused on their work and are not interested in people when their hive is undisturbed. As long as the environment remains calm and respectful, they typically continue their normal activity without concern for nearby guests.

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS, OR THE WEATHER IS BAD?

Sessions can still take place during light rain, as the bee hut provides shelter. However, in cases of severe weather such as heavy rain, strong winds, or thunderstorms, sessions may be rescheduled to ensure the comfort and safety of both guests and the bees.

WHAT DOES IT SOUND AND HEAR LIKE INSIDE THE HUT?

Inside the hut you will hear the gentle hum of thousands of bees working within the hive. Many guests also notice subtle vibrations from the colony, which create a steady, calming sound environment. The air carries a light, natural scent from the hive—often described as warm honey, beeswax, and subtle floral notes from the nectar and pollen the bees collect.

CAN I WATCH THE BEES DURING THE SESSION?

Just before or after your session, from the outside of the hut you may be able to observe the bees entering and leaving their hive entrances as they forage. Inside the hut, the bees remain within their hives so guests can relax without direct contact.

 IS PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED?

We ask that personal belongings be kept in the designated locked area rather than brought inside the hut. You are welcome to take photos of the hut or take a quick photo inside before or after your session. Don’t forget to tag us @stonehillfarmns if you share your experience. Please keep in mind that this is our private residence, and we ask that guests respect our privacy by not photographing other areas of the property.

CAN I COMBINE A BEE HUT SESSION WITH OTHER OFFERINGS AT THE FARM?

Yes. In the near future, we will be offering packages that combine bee hut sessions with additional experiences at the farm, such as honey tastings and a Sunday honey-themed brunch. We also have larger plans in development, so stay tuned as we continue to expand our offerings at Stonehill Farm.
